This long, grass covered ridge reaches its highest elevation near Highwood Pass at the headwaters of Pocaterra Creek. Geologist John Allan (see Mount Allan) referred to the ridge as "Kootenay Ridge" and prior to that it had been known as Pocaterra Peaks. [Gillean Daffern] George Pocaterra was a regular visitor to this ridge as he enjoyed the mountains and explored for coal. The mountain to the west of the ridge is unofficially referred to as Mount Pocaterra. The peak across the valley to the north, Elpoca Mountain, is also named after George Pocaterra.
