Heart Mountain is an eye-catching little peak, particularly when seen while eastbound on the Trans-Canada Highway. There is a heart-shaped exposure of a thick layer of limestone on the summit of this low peak when it is viewed from the Bow Valley near Lac des Arcs. The thick limestone layer that forms the heart is the Loomis Formation. The geology in this mountain is pretty complex and involves a number of different faults, one of which is overturned. *A hiking route to the summit is described in Gillean Daffern's Kananaskis Country Trail Guide.
