Named for: Douglas, David (David Douglas was a botanist who travelled through the Canadian Rockies during the nineteeth century.
The mountain was also known as The Black Douglas to distinguish it from its neighbour Mount St. Bride which has snow cover for much of the year. [See David Douglas]
