Located on the continental divide in the Valley of the Ten Peaks; Mount Bowlen (#3) looms above the visitor from the south end of Moraine Lake.

An ice-filled gully known to mountaineers as the 3-3.5 couloir lies between Mount Bowlen and Tonsa. In the past it was used by climbers to access the Neil Colgan Alpine Club Hut. After some accidents on this route it is not longer recommended. Born in Prince Edward Island, John James Bowlen (1876-1959) farmed is Saskatchewan and Alberta prior to being elected to the Alberta legislature in 1930. After serving his Calgary constituancy for 14 years, he was appinted Lieutenant Governor, serving in that position from 1950 until his death in 1959.
