Slate Range
Slate Range (82N)
The Slate Range lies between the Pipestone River on the west and Baker Creek on the east. The headwaters of the Red Deer River and Little Pipestone Creek form the northern end and the Bow Valley forms the southern end.
This range was named because of the slate like rock of which much of the mountains in the range are composed.
The name "Slate Mountains" appears in the general Skoki area on George Dawson's 1886 map. It is likely that Dawson was responsible for the name.
