Byron Harmon

(1875-1942) Byron Harmon was an American who arrived in the Canadian Rockies in 1903. As his enjoyment of hiking and climbing developed he became a founding member of and the official photographer for the Alpine Club of Canada in 1906. As a professional photographer, Harmon soon became primarily interested in the photography of mountain landscapes rather than portraiture. Harmon's collection of photographs exceeds 6000 and are a wonderful record of the early explorations in the Canadian Rockies. The collection is maintained by the Whyte Museum of the Canadian Rockies.
