This little mountain was the last of thirty in the Canadian Rockies to be named after ships, admirals, etc. related to the Battle of Jutland. In 1991, "The Grand Fleet Expedition" from Calgary's No. 1144 Lake Bonavista Sea Venturer Company climbed a number of the mountains in the Kananaskis area whose names are related to the battle. In order to commemorate the seventy-fifth anniversary of the Battle of Jutland, they recommended that Mount Nomad be named in honour of HMS Nomad which was sunk during the battle. *A hiking route to the summit is described in Gillean Daffern's Kananaskis Country Trail Guide.
