Named for: Dent, Clinton Thomas (Clinton Dent was the president of the Alpine Club (London) and a distinguished British surgeon and physiologist.)

Clifford Dent (1850-1912) was a prominent mountaineer in the late 18th century. He completed the first ascent of the Aiguille du Dru with J.Walker Hartley, Alexander Burgener and Kaspar Maurer in 1878. He wrote "Above the Snow Line" (1885) and "Mountaineering" (1892). In 1885, it is said he was one the of the first to raise the possibility of climbing Everest.
