Named for: The mountain was named after Cumnock, Ayreshire, Scotland.

Cumnock was a village in Scotland and its name means "meeting of the waters." Two creeks which cut though the Pierre-Jean De Smet Range join the Snake Indian River immediately to the northeast of the mountain and this may explain why the name was chosen.
