In his book, "The Glittering Mountains of Canada," J. Monroe Thorington clearly refers to this peak as Whirlpool Mountain, writing, "In this angle (the angle of the Whirlpool-Athabasca junction) is a striking peak, known by local name as 'Whirlpool Mountain'"
