Named for: From the summit Bridgland was able to look down upon their comfortable camp
Just prior to his ascent of the mountain, Morrison Bridgland's surveying party had moved their camp up the Fiddle River Canyon beyond the hot springs and above much of the August heat and the torment of what he referred to as the "bulldog" black flies. The camp was in a lovely meadow with good water and cool temperatures. The campsite was in view from the summit of the mountain. Bridgland noted "Utopia" in the corner of his notebook and later the peak was assigned the name Mount Utopia. [MacLaren]
