Named for: Thorington, J. Monroe (J.M. Thorington travelled and climbed extensively in the Canadian Rockies.)

J. Monroe Thorington was a prominent mountaineer in the 1920's and 1930's and completed fifty two first ascents in the Rockies and Selkirks. After a close association with Conrad Kain, Thorington completed and edited Kain's autobiography after the guide's early death. "Where the Clouds can Go" is a classic of mountain literature. As well, the first "Climber's Guide to the Canadian Rockies" was co-authored by J. Monroe Thorington.
