Named for: Strom, Erling (A native of Oslo, Erling Strom played a major role in the introduction of skiing to western Canada after arriving in Banff in 1928. In 1932 he took over the management of Assiniboine Lodge from the CPR and operated it for many years.

The B.C. government records note that when the mountain was named after Erling Strom in 1960, he was still alive and that this was, "contrary to the rules."
