According to Ben Gadd, the ice must have been very thick in this area as it flowed out of the mountains. In his book, "Canadian Rockies Geology Road Tours," Ben reports that he has found glacial erratics on the summit of Shunda Mountain indicating that the ice passed right over the summit. He further belives that the mountain''s streamlined shape is a result of it being sculpted by the ice flow. In 1927, Colisium Mountain became the site of the first fire lookout building in Alberta. The stone foundation is all that remains of the structure. The lookout was transferred to Shunda Mountain in 1955. Shunda Mountain (always called "Baldy" by the locals) seemed to fascinate Martin Nordegg. He said it looked like an extinct volcano, and he called it Mount Nordegg in his Memoirs.(Anne Belliveau)
