Named for: Dr. Dawson is said to have named the mountain after, "curious formations resembling oysters." True oysters are only found in much younger rocks than those that make up Oyster Peak. He may have been looking at a form of brachiopod.

Oyster Peak is a three km long ridge. Oyster Lake lies in a cirque at the south end of the ridge.
