In Volume I of the Interprovincial Boundary Survey, Arthur Wheeler wrote, "The name of Mount Beatty has been given to it in honour of the famous British admiral; Mt Beatty is a fine, snow-clad peak, sending a picturesque glacier down to near the summit of the North (Kananaskis) Pass." Admiral Beatty was the Commander of a squadron of battle cruisers that were part of the Royal Navy's "Grand Battle Fleet" at the Battle of Jutland during World War I. Six months after the Battle of Jutland, Beatty became commander of the Grand Fleet.
