Named for: The northern access to the pass features a number of impressive pillars or pinnacles of rock which seem to act as sentinels. One of them, the Grand Sentinel, stands 120 metres high.

SENTINEL PASS (Banff)

This high notch between Mount Temple and Pinnacle Peak is the highest, heavily travelled trails in the Canadian Rockies. The pinnacles for which the pass is named are found on the northern side, below the cliffs of Pinnacle Peak. The highest is known as the _Grand Sentinel.î

Another Sentinel Pass lies at the headwaters of Pekisko Creek west of High River.
